KPHA Youth

 KPHA Scholarship and KPHA Memorial Scholarship  

Both the KPHA Memorial Scholarship and KPHA Scholarship were established to assist students in the  Kansas Paint Horse Association achieve educational goals. The scholarships, each in the amount of $500,  must be applied for annually. Preference for the KPHA Memorial Scholarship will be given to graduating  seniors who will be attending college, junior college, or a university for the first time. Preference for the  KPHA Scholarship will be given to an adult returning to school, attending a vocational-technical institute or  trade school. Applications are due July 1 of each year and will be awarded with a formal presentation at  the annual awards banquet.   

Eligibility Rules  

1. Applicant must have completed their high school education and attained a 3.0 or better GPA. 

2. Applicant must be a Kansas Paint Horse Association member in the previous year and the year in which applying. 

3. Applicant must be able to document participation in showing at Kansas Paint Horse shows the previous year and the year in which applying, OR must be able to document participation in other events the previous year and the year in which applying with their Paint horse(s). Recognized participation includes programs such as PAC, 4-H, Ride America, other show associations, acting as ring steward, or being part of a horse-judging team. 

4. Scholarship may be used for legitimate school expenses; candidate will be asked to provide proof of enrollment at the educational institution. 

5. Checks will be made payable to the candidate and to the school. 

6. The scholarship recipient will be the candidate who submits, in the judges’ opinions, the superior essay on the topic, “"Describe the impact KPHA and its activities will have on your ability to attain your life goals."  Essay(s) must be a minimum of 750 words but can be any length in excess of 750 words, with or without  photographs or other graphics and in any media. 

7. Applications should be submitted to the Scholarship Committee by July 1 of the year applying. 

8. The Scholarship Committee will read the applications and make a recommendation to the Board of Directors. 

9. The KPHA Memorial Scholarship and KPHA Scholarship may both be applied for by the same candidate and may or may not be awarded in conjunction with the other scholarship. KPHA Scholarships will be awarded annually based upon the solvency of the club. 

10. The Board of Directors reserves the right to grant any or none of the applications, based on the quality of the entry. In all circumstances, the decision of the Board of Directors will be final.
